Dave Evans' story

My early days

Although I was born in Lowestoft Suffolk, at the age of 3 I went out to Nigeria with my parents who moved over there as missionaries in 1964. I grew up in warm and loving family and both my parents were Christians.

When my sister died... I was devastated

In 1967 my parents had a daughter who I was very close to and loved very much. In 1970, at about 3 years of age, she died as a result of an overdose of anti malarial drugs given to her in the Hospital. It was this event that changed my life. At the age of 10 I was devastated at the loss of my little sister. I knew that she had gone to heaven and was also aware that I had never personally made a commitment of my life to God. I also knew that there was no way of getting to heaven without giving my life to God. So at the age of 10 I committed my life to God to make sure that I would get to heaven and see my sister again. Shortly after, I was baptized in a river by a close missionary friend.

The presence of God

From that point on I can honestly say that I knew the presence of God in a personal way, I had a relationship or friendship with Him that has grown over the years. There has been times since then when I have felt closer to God as well as times when I have felt further away from Him. But I can honestly say that in all this time I have never felt totally alone. He has always been there and several times I have so keenly sensed His presence that I have recommitted my life to Him.

God's provision and miracles

During this time I have seen His provision when there has seemed to be no hope. I have seen miraculous healings and protection, both my family's life and in others lives as well as in my own, being healed of M.E. after having it for about 5 years.

My greatest friend

For me I would say the greatest thing has been relationship. I have had and still have a very real and intimate relationship and friendship with Jesus Christ. A relationship in which I feel valued secure and loved.
